Digital Watercolour Simulation (2023)

This was designed and built for a meditative game prototype that followed colour as it flowed through water on a digital page.

This used an optimised breadth-first search algorithm to find the next “wet” area to which the paint should spread. It sampled two annoise textures for the gradation of the paint, and stored the “wetness” of the paper in the alpha channel of the paper texture. As an avid watercolourist herself, Maddy worked to make sure the paint and water interacted as naturally as possible. This simulation was built in Unity.
